Soft Science is an international peer-reviewed, open access, online journal.

The past decade has witnessed an emerging and fast-growing field on mechanically soft systems, ranging from soft materials (e.g. hydrogels) to soft devices (e.g. flexible electronics), and to soft functional systems (e.g. soft robotics). It is envisioned that soft systems will continue to thrive in the coming decades in academia and industrial communities. The launch of Soft Science is to provide the first dedicated platform for publishing research findings and to share the knowledge among the communities.

Aims and Scope

Soft Science is an open-access journal that focuses on the innovative and interdisciplinary research on soft materials and devices. The journal aims to publish high-quality research that advances our understanding and application of soft matter innovation. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Mechanism, design, properties, manufacturing and applications of soft materials, structures, electronics and systems.

Soft Materials: Development, synthesis, properties characterization, and applications of novel soft materials, soft matter, including fluids, liquid metal, gels, fibers, textiles, elastomers, polymers, tissue, biomaterials, bioinspired materials, smart materials, energy materials, and functional composites, et al.
Soft Structures: Novel structures to enable the softness of the materials and devices. It includes flexible composite structure, organoids, bioinspired structures, hybrid thin films and structures, flexible metamaterials; et al.
Soft Electronics: Soft, flexible, stretchable, wearable electronics, optoelectronics, sensors/actuators, biomedicine, nanogenerators, supercapacitor, solid state batteries, wearable batteries, solar cell, conformable, curved and deployable electronics, et al.
Soft Systems: Soft robotics, smart skins, and human machine interfaces, implantable devices; flexible intelligent system, self-powered system et al.
Advanced Fabrication Technologies: Fabrication of/for/by soft materials, soft structures, soft electronics, and soft system, et al.

Through the platform of Soft Science, we aim to promote interdisciplinary research and collaboration to advance the frontier of soft materials and devices innovation.

Gold Open Access. All articles published by Soft Science are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately from the date of publication. For further information, please refer to Open Access.

Articles in Soft Science are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). The CC BY 4.0 allows for maximum dissemination and re-use of open access materials and is preferred by many research funding bodies. Under this license users are free to share (copy, distribute and transmit) and remix (adapt) the contribution for any purposes, even commercially, provided that the users appropriately acknowledge the original authors and the source.

Copyright is retained by authors. Authors are required to sign a License to Publish (which can be downloaded from the journal's Author Instructions), granting Soft Science, which identifies itself as the original publisher, exclusive rights to publish their articles, and granting any third party the right to use the articles freely as long as the integrity is maintained and the original authors, citation details and publisher are identified.

Soft Science fully adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Best Practice Guidelines of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
The Editors of this journal enforce a rigorous peer-review process together with strict ethical policies and standards to guarantee to add high quality scientific works to the field of scholarly publication. Unfortunately, cases of plagiarism, data falsification, image manipulation, inappropriate authorship credit, and the like, do arise. The Editors of Soft Science take such publishing ethics issues very seriously and are trained to proceed in such cases with a zero tolerance policy. To verify the originality of content submitted to our journals, we use CrossCheck (powered by iThenticate) to check submissions against previous publications.
