Special Issue Introduction

Photocatalytic hydrogen production is promising for green hydrogen generation. Developing efficient photocatalysts is crucial to achieving high solar-to-hydrogen (STH) conversion efficiencies. Although numerous photocatalysts have been developed in the past decades, low-cost, efficient and robust photocatalysts are still lacking, which hinders the development of this important field. A deeper understanding of light absorption, charge separation and surface charge transfer behaviors at the microscale is essential to further enhance the photocatalytic activity of these materials. The advancement of cutting-edge microscopy and spectroscopy technologies can provide direct evidence of the photocatalytic water splitting reaction mechanisms, which is significant for research into photocatalytic hydrogen production. This collection aims to highlight the microscopic insights of photocatalytic hydrogen production to provide a deeper understanding of the mechanisms. The development of new materials and advanced technologies is also important for achieving efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production. The Special Issue will include (but is not limited to) the following subjects:

● Novel photocatalysts with high hydrogen production efficiencies;

● Mechanism understanding of photocatalytic procedures;

● Cutting-edge technologies to promote the development of photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Keywords

Photocatalysts, hydrogen production, mechanisms, microscopic insights
