Special Issue Introduction

Hepatobiliary surgery, which involves the treatment of liver, bile duct, and gallbladder diseases and conditions, has advanced significantly with the integration of intraoperative fluorescence imaging. This cutting-edge technology utilizes fluorescent dyes or contrast agents that emit visible light when exposed to specific wavelengths of light, allowing surgeons to visualize and identify critical structures and tissues in real time during surgery. Intraoperative fluorescence imaging has emerged as a valuable tool in hepatobiliary surgery, aiding in identifying and preserving bile ducts, improving tumor identification and resection, and assessing tissue perfusion.

Therefore, this Special Issue, "Advancements and Clinical Applications of Intraoperative Fluorescence Imaging in Hepatobiliary Surgery: Current Status and Future Perspectives," aims to explore how intraoperative fluorescence imaging could enhance surgical preparation, outcomes, and other potential application. Topics include but are not limited to the following:
● Preoperative simulation (3D reconstruction, volume measurement, etc.);
● Intraoperative imaging focusing on ICG fluorescence techniques;
● Development of interface (display monitor, headset, etc.) for intraoperative navigation;
● Possible integration of fluorescence imaging and AI (deep learning) for future surgical navigation;
etc.
