MRR Editorial Board Member Prof. Catherine Stanton Recognized Among the World’s Top 1000 Female Scientists in 2025

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Catherine Stanton, a valued member of the Microbiome Research Reports (MRR) Editorial Board, has been included in the 2025 Best Female Scientists in the World ranking by Research.com. Prof. Stanton is ranked #331 globally and #1 in Ireland, a remarkable achievement highlighting her outstanding contributions to microbiome research.

Prof. Stanton’s groundbreaking work on human and animal microbiomes has advanced scientific understanding of microbial communities and their impact on health. Her research not only enriches the scientific community but also serves as an inspiration to women in science worldwide.

About Prof. Catherine Stanton

Prof. Stanton is a Senior Principal Research Officer at the Teagasc Food Research Centre (Ireland) and a Principal Investigator at APC Microbiome Ireland. In 2016, she was appointed Research Professor at the College of Medicine and Health, University College Cork (Ireland). Her research excellence has been widely recognized through numerous honors, including the 2010 Elie Metchnikoff Award in Microbiology and the 2020 Distinguished Service Award from the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA). She was also elected to the Royal Irish Academy in 2019. Prof. Stanton has made outstanding contributions to nutrition and microbiology, particularly in the areas of probiotics, nutritional aspects of dairy foods, infant gut microbiota, and bioactive lipids. Recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics, she has published 643 peer-reviewed research and review articles, accumulating 62,390 citations since 1987 and achieving an H-index of 119 (Scopus).
