Welcome Prof. Jiecai Feng as Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Materials Laser Processing

OAE's brand-new international open access journal Advanced Materials Laser Processing is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Jiecai Feng, an Associate Professor at Shanghai University, China, and a recognized expert in laser-based advanced manufacturing, as its Editor-in-Chief.

About the Journal

Advanced Materials Laser Processing is an international, open access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing high-quality original research articles, reviews, and perspectives on the science, technology, and applications of laser-based processing of advanced materials. The journal serves as a multidisciplinary platform that bridges materials science, laser physics, manufacturing engineering, nanotechnology, and applied photonics.

With the rapid evolution of high-precision laser technologies, laser-matter interactions have become central to next-generation materials design, micro- and nano-fabrication, surface engineering, and functional device manufacturing. About Prof. Jiecai Feng

Prof. Jiecai Feng

Prof. Jiecai Feng is an Associate Professor and doctoral supervisor in the School of Mechatronic Engineering and Automation, Shanghai University, Shanghai, China. He is also recognized as both a national and municipal expert, listed in the National Science and Technology Expert Database of China and the Shanghai Science and Technology Expert Database. His research broadly focuses on laser technologies and advanced manufacturing, with particular expertise in ultrafast laser micro/nano fabrication, as well as laser welding, cleaning, cladding, and cutting technologies.

Prof. Feng's academic training spans materials science, engineering, and laser processing. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, and earned his doctorate in Materials Processing from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China. He further expanded his international research expertise as a postdoctoral researcher at The University of Manchester, Manchester, UK. Before joining Shanghai University, he served as Chief Engineer at Shanghai Linsci Laser Technology Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China), where he played a key role in bridging academic research with industrial applications, demonstrating strong leadership across both sectors.

Prof. Feng has led multiple national and regional research programs, including projects funded by the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the Shanghai Industrial Transformation and Upgrade Fund, and the Aeronautical Science Fund of China. His research has contributed significantly to advances in laser processing mechanisms, multi-parameter monitoring, and the development of intelligent manufacturing technologies.

He has published more than forty high-quality scientific papers in internationally indexed journals and holds over ten authorized invention patents. His representative publications cover topics such as ultrafast laser processing of brittle and hard materials, hybrid laser-arc welding of high-strength steels, and laser welding of ultra-high strength alloys, making substantial contributions to the field of laser-based advanced manufacturing.

In addition, Prof. Feng serves on the Technical Committee of the Shanghai Laser Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering Technology Research Center and is a member of the Intelligent Processing Professional Committee of the Shanghai Society of Laser Technology, actively contributing to academic and professional communities in laser engineering and intelligent manufacturing.

Prof. Feng's appointment as Editor-in-Chief comes at a time of rapid global progress in laser processing and intelligent manufacturing. His broad expertise in both foundational research and industrial engineering aligns closely with the mission of Advanced Materials Laser Processing to promote rigorous, high-impact research that drives innovation in laser-based materials science and engineering.
