Topic: Occupational Environmental Exposures and Health

Occupational and environmental exposures are major public health concerns, contributing to acute and chronic diseases, premature mortality, and health inequalities. Workers may be exposed to chemical, physical, and biological agents, as well as ergonomic and psychosocial hazards, while environmental pollutants and climate-related stressors may affect both occupational groups and the general population. The combined effects of multiple exposures, together with individual susceptibility and working conditions, pose significant challenges for exposure assessment and risk characterization.

Accurate exposure monitoring, epidemiological research, and interdisciplinary collaboration are essential to identify exposure–response relationships and improve understanding of short- and long-term health effects. Effective prevention requires integrated strategies, including hazard elimination or substitution, engineering controls, health surveillance, and evidence-based occupational and environmental health policies.

This Special Issue, “Occupational Environmental Exposures and Health,” welcomes original research, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses addressing exposure assessment, occupational and environmental epidemiology, toxicological mechanisms, emerging hazards, vulnerable populations, and preventive interventions. Its aim is to advance scientific knowledge and support evidence-based strategies to protect workers and the wider population.
