Special Topic Introduction
This Special Issue of Journal of Environmental Exposure Assessment aims to advance the understanding of human and environmental exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other emerging contaminants, focusing on associated health outcomes and the underlying molecular mechanisms. With the growing production and environmental presence of these substances, there is an urgent need to elucidate their toxicological pathways, dose-response relationships, and long-term health consequences.
We welcome submissions covering a broad range of topics, including biomonitoring and exposure assessment, epidemiological studies linking chemical exposure to health outcomes, mechanistic investigations using in vitro and in vivo models, multi-omics approaches (e.g., metabolomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics), computational toxicology, and toxicity prediction model construction. Studies on chemical mixtures, combined exposures, and vulnerable populations are especially encouraged.Through this collection, we aim to provide a platform for cutting-edge research that informs risk assessment and supports evidence-based strategies to mitigate the health risks associated with PFAS and other emerging environmental contaminants.
