Topic: Nanomaterials and Ultrafine Particles Exposure and Human Health: Mechanisms, Biomarkers, and Risk Assessment

Nanomaterials and ultrafine particles represent substances with particle sizes smaller than 100 nm. They exhibit physicochemical properties distinct from those of conventional materials at the micrometer scale or larger. Once released into the environment or absorbed by the human body, these particles may pose potential health risks.

Environmental health and safety concerns related to nanomaterials have received widespread attention. In particular, the focus on atmospheric ultrafine particles (PM0.1) is gradually surpassing that on atmospheric fine particles (PM2.5). However, their environmental exposure levels and associated health hazards have not yet been fully elucidated.

Scope of the Special Issue:

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in the study of nanomaterials and ultrafine particles exposure and their impacts on human health. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

● Detection of environmental exposure levels of nanomaterials or ultrafine particles;

● New evaluation methods for environmental exposure of nanomaterials or ultrafine particles;

● Toxicological mechanisms of nanomaterials or ultrafine particles;

● Epidemiological studies on the health hazards of nanomaterials or ultrafine particles to the population;

● Biomarker research on nanomaterials or ultrafine particles;

● Risk assessment of nanomaterials or ultrafine particles.
