Special Topic Introduction
Organ-on-a-Chip (OOC) technologies are rapidly transforming the landscape of biomedical research by offering physiologically relevant microenvironments that replicate human organ functions at unprecedented precision. By integrating microfluidics, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and real-time analytical systems, OOC platforms bridge the longstanding gap between traditional in vitro studies and in vivo physiological responses. These emerging systems have opened new avenues for drug discovery, toxicity testing, disease modelling, and personalized medicine, significantly reducing reliance on animal models and enhancing translational relevance.
This Special Issue, Frontiers in Biomedical Biotechnology: Organ-on-a-Chip and Therapeutic Platforms, brings together cutting-edge research and technological advances that highlight the potential of next-generation bioengineered platforms. We welcome contributions that explore innovations in device design, biomimetic models, multi-organ integration, biosensing, disease simulation, and therapeutic applications. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive and impactful collection of studies that showcase how these microphysiological systems are shaping the future of biomedical science, clinical translation, and precision therapeutics.
