Special Topic Introduction
The rapid development of next-generation electrochemical energy storage technologies, including solid-state batteries, microbatteries for IoT and wearable electronics, and high-energy-density lithium-based batteries, has raised urgent demands for deeper insights into dynamic electrode evolution, interface stability and failure mechanisms. In-situ and operando characterization techniques have become indispensable tools to unveil real-time electrochemical processes, while emerging electrochemical sensing technologies, intelligent diagnostics, and data-driven analytical approaches are creating new opportunities to monitor and understand complex battery behaviours under practical operating conditions. Meanwhile, rational interface engineering and safety optimization remain critical pathways to enhance device performance, reliability, and lifespan.
This special topic aims to gather cutting-edge research on advanced in-situ and operando diagnostic methodologies, interface structure regulation, degradation mechanism analysis, safety enhancement strategies, intelligent battery sensors, data-driven diagnostics and novel micro-energy storage device design. Original research papers, comprehensive reviews and perspectives are all welcome, to promote both the fundamental understanding and practical application of high-performance electrochemical energy storage systems.
