Special Issue Introduction

Photocatalysis, as one of the most promising strategies for addressing current tense energy and environment challenges, has attracted significant global attention. The key to achieving practical application is photocatalysts. In recent years, various tactics have been developed to design and prepare highly efficient photocatalysts. Among these, heterojunction is demonstrated as one smart strategy to simultaneously improve light absorption, charge separation and transfer, and spatially separated redox reactions, such as type-I, type-II, p-n junction, Z-scheme, S-scheme, relative p-n junction and configuration transformation. Heterojunction photocatalyst has received widespread and sustained attention.

The Special Issue focuses on recent progress in the design, fabrication and application of heterojunction photocatalysts. Specific areas to be covered include, but are not limited to:
● Heterojunction photocatalysts: Conductor-semiconductor, semiconductor-semiconductor, semiconductor-nonconductor and cocatalyst-photocatalyst heterojunctions, etc.
● Photocatalytic applications of heterojunctions: Photocatalytic degradation, water splitting, hydrogen production, carbon dioxide reduction, nitrogen fixation, photodynamic therapy, bacteria inactivation, coupled photoredox reactions, photosynthesis of hydrogen peroxide, urea and organics, etc.

Keywords

Heterojunction, nanocomposites, photocatalysis, photocatalytic mechanism, photogenerated charge carriers, photocatalytic degradation, photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, photoredox, photosynthesis, reduction of carbon dioxide
