Celebrating the Success of the Webinar on High-Performance and Smart Concrete Materials Scheduled for July 30, 2024!

The journal Disaster Prevention and Resilience (DPR, Online ISSN: 2832-4056) successfully hosted an insightful and pioneering webinar on High-Performance and Smart Concrete Materials on July 30, 2024 (Tuesday, Beijing, UTC+8). This virtual event highlighted the advancements and breakthroughs in the field.

Chaired by Prof. Baoguo Han and organized by the DPR Journal Office, the webinar featured three distinguished speakers: Dr. Youyou Zhang from Xi'an Jiaotong University, Dr. Avik Kumar from Tsinghua University, and Dr. Fei Liu from Dalian University of Technology. The event attracted attention from experts and stakeholders, delving into the application of high-performance, multifunctional, and smart concrete materials and structures in enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructure.

The DPR Journal Office introduced the journal and its Special Issue on (Ultra)High-Performance and Multifunctional/Smart Concrete Materials and Structures for Empowering Critical Infrastructure Resilience led by Prof. Ashraf Ashour and Prof. Baoguo Han.

Highlights of the Webinar:

1. Dr. Youyou Zhang from Xi'an Jiaotong University showcased her excellent research on the effect of shrinkage-mitigating additive and curing conditions on flexural and fracture behaviors of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) beams.

2. Dr. Avik Kumar from Tsinghua University discussed his team's outstanding work on facilitating the integration of engineered cementitious composites (ECC)  through large-scale monitoring.

3. Dr. Fei Liu from Dalian University of Technology, with expertise in the mechanics of concrete materials, presented his research on the interface crack resistance mechanism of basalt fiber-reinforced polymer-modified magnesium phosphate cement (BFPMPC)  mortar and cement concrete.

The webinar witnessed an overwhelming response with 13,668 participants joining across multiple platforms. This event served as a crucial platform for academic exchange and cooperation, promoting the development of high-performance, multifunctional, and smart concrete materials and structures. It is expected to significantly contribute to strengthening the resilience of critical infrastructure.
