Bio
Artem R. Oganov is a Distinguished Professor at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) and a Member of the Academia Europaea. Born in Moscow in 1975, he graduated with distinction from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1997, majoring in Crystallography and Crystal Chemistry, and received his Ph.D. in Crystallography from University College London in 2002. He subsequently held academic appointments at ETH Zurich and Stony Brook University. Professor Oganov is internationally recognized for his pioneering contributions to computational materials discovery and crystal structure prediction. He is the developer of the USPEX code, a widely employed computational tool for predicting stable and metastable crystal structures based solely on chemical composition. His research interests encompass high-pressure chemistry, planetary sciences, and the rational design of materials with desired properties. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the American Physical Society, the Mineralogical Society of America, and the International Core Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Among his numerous honors are the Chinese Government Friendship Award (2019), the Research Excellence Medal of the European Mineralogical Union (2007), the ETH Latsis Prize (2006), and the International Science and Technology Award of China (2026). He has also been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics in 2022, 2024, 2025.
