From ancient times to the present, advanced materials have always been the cornerstone that drives the progress of human civilization. Every revolution in advanced materials has reshaped humans’ understanding of the world and their ability to transform it. Additionally, laser processing technology is regarded as “the most promising green, efficient and high-quality materials processing technology in the 21st century”. With its non-contact, high precision, high stability and high spatial resolution characteristics, laser processing technology has become a powerful tool for the preparation, modification, connection and repair of advanced materials. From nano-level ultra-high-resolution laser micro-nano manufacturing to laser additive manufacturing of large-scale complex components, from laser doping of semiconductor materials to laser micro-nano processing of metamaterials, advanced laser processing technology is redefining the boundaries and connotations of materials processing.

Recently, the development of advanced materials has also opened up new application scenarios for laser processing technology. The combination of femtosecond/picosecond ultrafast lasers with perovskite materials has given rise to a new generation of photovoltaic technology. The interaction between the femtosecond laser and topological insulators has revealed new mechanisms for quantum control. The laser-induced graphene technology has pioneered a new paradigm for flexible electronic devices. This two-way enabling coupling is precisely the call of the times for the birth of the “Advanced Materials Laser Processing” journal.

This journal first focuses on composite materials and alloys, functional materials, and metamaterials, which are widely applied in industries such as aerospace and shipbuilding, as well as in sectors related to human life and health. Second, it focuses on laser processing and manufacturing technologies, including laser welding, laser additive manufacturing, laser cleaning, laser cladding, laser cutting, laser forming, and laser strengthening. These advanced laser processing technologies are currently, and will continue to, improve transportation systems and human living standards, while also providing key technical support for space exploration. Third, this journal covers the development and application of femtosecond and picosecond laser micro-nano manufacturing for aviation engine blades, aerospace structural components, optical devices, photonic chips, and integrated circuit glass packaging, which increasingly replace traditional chemical or mechanical processing due to their high efficiency, lower cost, and environmentally sustainable advantages. Finally, the journal focuses on theoretical calculations and simulations, as well as in-situ monitoring, to further clarify the interaction mechanisms between lasers and materials, establish the relationship between material properties and processing parameters, provide scientific guidance and theoretical support for advanced laser processing technologies, and continuously deliver high-quality processing outcomes for advanced materials.

Materials are the cornerstone of human civilization, and lasers are the tools for transforming the world. The beautiful encounter between materials and lasers covered by the new journal of Advanced Materials Laser Processing will surely spark brilliant sparks, unveil the curtains of more unknown fields, and contribute wisdom and strength to the sustainable development of human society.

Type of Import
